EDGE Südkreuz Berlin, the most sustainable building in Germany
The timber-hybrid construction method reduced CO2 emissions by up to 80 percent compared to reinforced concrete – with a value of 95.4%, this is unprecedented in terms of sustainability. It is not for nothing that the building was awarded the title mentioned at the beginning by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).
Located directly opposite Südkreuz railway station, it houses the new German head offices of the Vattenfall energy group and provides space for 1,600 employees in line with the latest workplace standards. The underground car park for the vehicle fleet was designed to be correspondingly large. And choosing the semi-automatic "TrendVario 6200+" systems from KLAUS Multiparking meant there was room for 170 parking spaces. This is almost double the parking capacity that could normally be accommodated on the available space.
It is only logical for the resident energy company to offer e-charging facilities for the parked vehicles. The wall boxes required for this are installed directly on the platforms thanks to e-plug-in columns, making charging just as convenient as in a conventional parking space. It makes no difference whether the occupied platform is moved upwards, downwards, or sideways during charging.
Supplying the energy to charge electric vehicles at 170 parking spaces is no ordinary matter, as anyone familiar with the issue can imagine. Nevertheless, it has been achieved - "EDGE Südkreuz Berlin" is the compelling proof.
